I think it's pretty rude for anyone to question why someone's art looks a certain way or ask what something is or what it means regarding their art. It is visual stimulation and expression. Some artists might have a more personal explanation that they don't feel comfortable sharing. On the other hand, some do but the point of art is it doesn't need an explanation or a specific setting or time or place. It is left up for the viewer and if you like it, you like it, it depends I suppose on what feelings or moods are generated in you when you see it. Simple as that. Don't question it unless you're asking what media or canvas they used and even then, you'll be lucky if you get an answer since some artists don't want to reveal their secrets. That's the end of my mini rant, though.

^One of many reasons why I don't think critiques are needed either, unless you just don't realize where you could improve but mostly towards those who didn't ask for critique in the first place. I can recognize my weak areas but it is MY own personal choice whether I want to improve on them or not, depending on what I'm aiming for. I mean, there's no definition of perfection anyway so how does one know how to 'improve' anything? Just because it fits your specific image of beauty or art and is more appealing to your personal tastes doesn't mean anything when it is not your own creation. Take it as it is. With that said, I don't ever critique anyone's art unless they /really/ want me to because I appreciate all creative executions of visual stimuli. It is the effort that counts.
